[Organizers] Toornament supports the LoL Tournament Codes

maintenance We are currently awaiting for Riot Games to fix an issue with their API, preventing the generation of Tournament Codes.

We’re happy to report that Toornament now fully supports League Of Legends Tournament Codes!
These codes will help you tremendously by putting your participants in the right lobbies and automatically retrieve scores from their games and results for their matches. Here’s how it works:

  • 1. Create a LoL Competition in Toornament
  • 2. Enable the “Tournament Code” functionality in “Settings” -> “League of Legends” and fill in the necessary information. Beware though, once you’ve validated, there is no going back, so please make sure to double check your settings!

  • 3. Participants can then find the Tournament Code on the match page in their Participant Dashboard:

  • 4. Launch the LoL client and select “Play”. Then click on the Tournament button (with a little trophy on it) in the top-right corner, and paste your code in the field.

Important: the participants must have their Summoner Name. The summoner name is used to match the result between Riot servers and our servers.

You’re set! The post-match results will automatically show in Toornament, and the advanced statistics like picks and K/D/A. Running a great LoL tournament is now easier than ever!

  • Organizers can find any and all Tournament Codes on the Matches page in the Organizer Dashboard, in case they want to spectate for example:

  • If all the participants leave the game during the Pick & Ban phase or during the early game, they can rejoin it with the same code. The game will be reset but the code, results and stats will still work.

[Organizers] How to place your participants when some don’t show up?

You know the golden rule for a tournament organizer: s**t happens and sometimes, some of your participants can’t show up for some reason.

This may lead to some tricky situations where there are too many seeds for the available slots. How do you deal with this issue?

Let’s see with this case: My 16 slots tournament is full with registrations and ready to start. But at the last minute, 4 teams can’t make it: “Payload Warriors”, “Soul D.Va”, “Sacrilege” and “Apac Apex” won’t show up .

How to deal with this in terms of placement and seeding? The goal here is to re-generate your tournament’s structure with all the other participants.

Here’s our easy method:

1. Re-seed

The first thing to do is to move the no-show teams to the lowest seedings.

In your Participants’ tab, go to “Edit All” and attribute the lowest seeds to the no-show teams.

Then, give their seeds to the other teams.

At the end of your switch, all the present teams will be seeded from #1 to #12, while the no-show teams will be seeded from #13 to #16.

2. Re-generate

Now, go in your structure tab and choose “Change”. You can now repick a structure.

Change the tournament size from 16 to 12. Generate the structure.

3. Re-place

In your Placement Tab, a warning message will pop on top of the screen, reminding you that there are more participants (16) than available slots (12).

Don’t mind and place your participants 🙂

You’re done! A green message will confirm your placement.

The 16 registered teams are still there, but the tournament has only seeded the 12 first and you competition can start. We’ll streamline this process in a later update!

[Organizers] Setup the Double Round Robin format

Sometimes, you need an original match format to spice up things. Fancy double Round-Robin? This format provides more matches for your participants and finer sorting output for you. Here’s how to enable it:

1/ Structure

Pick a compatible structure, Round-Robin and Double Round-Robin are available in “Round Robin Groups” (duh!) and “Leagues” only.

2. Groups

In the Structure menu, click on “Configure” for the stage you want to change:

3. Pairing

In the “Advanced Tab, you can now change the Pairing Method in the top-left corner:

The Manual pairing is for those who want to create a fully customized stage, and is explained in the Pairing Table article.

You’re all set!
Note: changing your Pairing Method with regenerate your Group phase. Better do it before starting the matches!

[Organizers] How to read the match nomenclature?

In order to help you organizers identify any given match easily, we’ve adopted an easy to use and memorize string made of four numbers.

You can see it on every match on Toornament:

The string of numbers simply describes each step of the tournament, from the larger to the smaller.

“Stage > Group > Round > Match”

  • Stage is the phase of the tournament. For example, a “groupstage to playoffs” structure means there are two stages: Groups (1), then Playoffs (2)
  • Group designates the group in which the match in being played.
  • Round is the series of matches inside a group. In a group of 4 where each participants play their 3 other opponents once, there are 3 rounds.
  • Each round holds a certain number of matches to be completed.

This means that a match labelled “″ will be in Stage 1, Group 3, Round 2, Match 5. This will help you “locate” a match in a snap. Worth noting!

[Organizers] 5 tips to promote your Esport tournament

You now know us and use Toornament to design and produce great Esport tournaments. How about you get even more value by promoting them the right way? Here are our 5 tips!

1. Create content

Great content adds visibility and lifespan to your event. A teaser / trailer is an efficient way to carry the announcement or registration opening. After the event, a video highlight always pleases the participants and viewers alike. If video requires too much resources, go for nice graphics and pictures.

2. Use our Widgets

Our widgets are the to-go tool for promotion. Customize and embed them everywhere like a Youtube video: medias, community sites covering your tournaments will then get a real-time coverage of all the scores, results and streams. Win-win situation!

3. Get social

Social are still the most powerful way to engage with your audience and promote your tournament. But your account need to exist all-year long, or you will not gather enough followers and contacts to share your projects, so be aware of all the efforts you’ll have to engage each time you enter a new social network. The Twitter/Twitch/Facebook trio remains the place-to-be for all things gaming.

4. Interact with your audience

Creating interactions on your different channels is the best way to create and maintain hype around your event. Start sponsors raffles and giveaways on your stream, make announcements befor the finals, organize showmatches, polls on Twitter etc. Matches are the main dish, interaction are the snacks people keep coming back to.

5. Get featured on Toornament

Last but not least, we’re featuring tournaments from our community.
We’re always eager to help our community organizers by promoting their tournaments on Twitter, so don’t hesitate mentioning us with @Toornament!
If you wish to be displayed on the Front Page, just create an Open Tournament, and our algorithm will see the rest through if your tournament does feature complete information!
As for the “Featured” parts, if you think your tournament has what it takes to be among the very best ones, feel free to contact us through the Platform Support or Email us!
