Toornament account for all

Big news for you participants: a Toornament account is now mandatory.

Since we opened up Toornament to the players with the Participant Dashboard, it became clear to us that everyone using Toornament should register an account.

image

Until now, participants would register for a tournament, but not necessarily get an account, leading to another required registration process for each new tournament. We’re now making it simple: to register for a tournament, register on Toornament!

Participants will then be able to register for all the tournaments they want and find and manage all their past, ongoing and upcoming competitions straight from their dedicated dashboard.

Following this important step, we’ll keep on streamlining the participant’s experience:

  • Our mobile app will integrate this feature and allow Register / Log In processes.
  • The participant Dashboard will also list all your registrations as a participant in the future updates.

Update: Organizer dashboard

We’ve updated the participant page in the organizer dashboard with more information and navigation options:

image

Your participants screen now show all the main numbers: participants numbers, how many are checked in, how many are registered, tournament size.

We’ve also ironed out the check in / validate / refuse actions in the list with back buttons.

Navigation updates

We’ve enhanced some navigation parts of Toornament, check them out!

Pages for the Games tabs

The growing number of past, current and incoming tournaments for each game called for a proper navigation, with pages for each tab.

image

You can search up to 20 pages. Beyond, our search engine is your best friend.

Tournament Page Menu

Since we started dedicated tournament pages, we’ve told you that they would evolve from Widget-based content to dedicated content. We’re getting there (teaser, teaser…), starting with the navigation bar.

image

“Matches” and “Schedule” now let a menu scroll down for an easier and faster navigation to the information you and your participants are looking for.

image

“Schedule” menu will appear if schedules other than “Match” are created by the tournament organizer.

These front tweaks are the first of more to come… Stay tuned!

Our new Facebook Page is your new eSports calendar

We’re happy to announce our new Facebook Page, “Toornament eSports

Yes, it’s 2016 and we’re launching a Facebook page. But make no mistake, this is not just your regular fanpage!

image

We thought our Facebook page as an eSports calendar embedded right into your Facebook timeline. As many people use the famous social network to manage their calendar, we thought it’d be cool for them to track eSports tournaments too.

Just “Like” our page and participate in our events to be notified of all the major eSports tournaments around the world.

Our Facebook page is a nice sidekick to our main website and mobile app to discover and follow eSports tournaments everyday, from everywhere.

[Participants] Meet your dedicated dashboard

We’re excited to release the first version of the “Participant Dashboard”, Toornament’s latest section. Your Toornament account already grants you the possibility to create and manage tournaments, as well as accessing our API. You can now also list your tournaments participations.

If
you’re taking part in a tournament as participant, you will be able to get to your matches right from the Participant
Dashboard.

This
is the first step of this new section. In the next few weeks, each match will
have a dedicated page where you will be able to find your opponent and all match information. We are also working on the much awaited functionality, the participant
score reporting. This feature will allow each match opponent to report directly
the score, make it easier for organizers to run tournaments.

Try the Participant Dashboard now!

Now handling up to 256 participants!

Bigger is Better

We’re happy to announce that our maximum participants size has been buffed from 128 to 256! We released this feature for some of our partners like Gamers Assembly and Dreamhack a few weeks back and now, we’re rolling it out for everyone!

image

This upgrade is the visible part of a deeper change in our architecture approach. Good news is the only change that you’ll experience when generating a toornament is that the process will occur in the background for a few seconds, depending on your tournament size.

You may thus see new messages like these ones:

image

Note that triple-phase structures (i.e. groups + groups + bracket) are still maxed at 128 participants while League format goes up to 32 participants.

What’s next ?

As we said before, this new upper limit is the first step to a larger infrastructure overhaul which aims to raise the bar even higher.

And when we say “higher”, we mean it: in the next months, Toornament will be able to
handle up to 4096 participants! Do you hear us, EVO?

Yet, “With great powers comes great responsibility”: This huge amount of participants also raises UI challenges. We’ve already shown you how large is a 128 participants bracket. A 4000+ one – or even 1000+ – would lead to an uber-heavy, hard to navigate webpage.

Until then, we’ll work on smooth an natural visualizations designed with these gigantic structures in mind. We’ll keep you in touch, as always. In the meantime, enjoy your 256 participants tournaments!

Our mobile app gets new features and redesign

We’ve just released a new iteration of our mobile app “Toornament eSports” (free on iOS and Android), featuring major new features and small fixes.

image

MATCH TICKER

This new section displays the following content:

  • All the Featured Tournaments we cover
  • Featured tournaments from the eSport disciplines you follow
  • Individual toornaments you’re following.

This new approach mixes manual picks from the user side and automated picks from our app, making it easier to follow and discover Esport events.

The Match ticker UI helps you find a match the easy way, using two navigation timelines. The horizontal timeline lets you browse past, current and future tournaments. The vertical navigation timeline on the right focuses on the chosen day and features blue highlights on the hour a match occurs.

image

MATCH BLOCK

You often come across the Match Block in our app. Well, it’s been redesigned for a better visual integration with the different parts of the app it appears in – which means quite everywhere!

image

The new Match Block boasts two new icons: VOD and Stats. The first one indicates whether a video from the match is available. The second one is an incoming feature which will display stats from enabled games (Dota2, LoL, Blood Bowl etc.)

image

FOLLOWING

We’ve replaced the “Favorite” function with the “Following” one. You can follow:

  • An individual tournament
  • An eSport discipline, including all its Featured Tournaments

image

Add a game or tournament and they’ll join your Following tab.

PARTICIPANTS INFORMATION

Participants profiles have been enriched and now display all their information, including public custom fields in a new “Info” tab.

LITTLE DETAILS

We’ve also adjusted the font sizes and made some wording corrections, giving the app a more professional look and feel. And of course, loads of bugs were smashed along the way!

We hope you’ll enjoy this new version of Toornament eSports mobile app, Get it for free on your smartphones:
